Use Capsule Coffee Machine? We explain it to you!

Capsule coffee machines are very easy to use, but there are a few things to keep in mind.

What are capsule coffee machines?

Capsule coffee makers have evolved into a much simpler, more efficient, and self-contained tool for making coffee at home. Its origin dates back to the 1970s, when the Nestlé company began to focus on designing and manufacturing a revolutionary coffee-making system.

This system should simplify the preparation by using capsules with predefined amounts of coffee, whereby the machines should take over the complete preparation at the push of a button.

But it wasn’t until the 1980s that technology and assembly methods were sufficiently advanced for the company to launch its first version of the capsule coffee machine, popularly known as the Nespresso.

What are coffee capsules?

They are small plastic or aluminum pods that contain ground coffee or a liquid and are intended for use in specialty coffee makers that perforate the pods at the top and pass hot water through them.

Coffee capsules have grown in popularity in recent years.

Types of coffee capsules

Today there is a wide variety of coffee capsules, not only because of their different flavors and presentations, but also because of the use and the name of the machine in which they can be used.

Original capsules

These are coffee capsules that are made exclusively for a specific brand and model of capsule coffee machine. An example of this is the Nespresso Dolce Gusto capsules, which can only be used in Dolce Gusto Nespresso machines.

Compatible capsules

These are coffee capsules that are manufactured to be used in various capsule coffee machines, regardless of make and model. Compatible pods tend to be cheaper than the original pods and are a good choice if you’re looking for a change and are on a budget.

Reusable capsules

As the name suggests, these are capsules that can be refilled with the ground coffee of your choice and are a greener and more economical option in the long run.

6 steps for the correct use of your capsule coffee machine

Before we start, it is important to know that each brand of capsule coffee maker can have a specific usage process and characteristics. We therefore recommend that you read the operating instructions for the machine in each case.

Choosing the coffee capsule

First you have to select the coffee capsule. As already mentioned, there are a variety of capsules on the market that are labeled with the type of coffee and aroma they contain, depending on the flavor; and depending on the type of capsule for the machine they are intended for.

Tip

Try different capsules. Don’t limit yourself to one brand or flavor, try different capsules. Find out which ones you like best. Some brands also offer special limited edition or seasonal capsules.

Prepare your machine

Before turning on your capsule coffee machine, it is important that you have prepared it for the brewing process. First, make sure you fill the water tank. Most machines have an LED indicator that lets you know when the water tank is empty, half full, or full; remember to check this regularly.

It is also important that before brewing the coffee, you lightly clean the nozzle from which the drink comes. It is normal for residue from previous drinks to remain, which can affect the taste.

Tip

Use fresh, clean water to brew your coffee to preserve flavor and quality. Also remember that the capsules should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture to preserve the freshness and quality of the coffee.

Inserting the capsule into the extraction chamber

Once you have selected the coffee capsule you want and have the machine ready, you need to insert it into the extraction chamber. Most capsule coffee machines have a special compartment in which the capsules must be inserted.

Select the desired brew group

After you put the capsule in the machine, it’s time to choose the brewing method. Most capsule coffee machines offer different brewing methods, whether espresso, long coffee, cappuccino or americano. Choose the option you like the most.

Tip

Choose the size of the cup depending on the type of drink you want. If you want an intensified coffee, use a smaller cup. On the other hand, if you want a smoother coffee, use a larger cup.

Enjoy your delicious cup of coffee

After you select the option to brew your coffee, the machine will start the process and end it automatically. Brewing time depends on the machine and the option you choose. Usually it takes 1 to 5 minutes. Once the coffee is ready, just grab your favorite mug, find a comfortable spot, and enjoy.

Tip

Experiment with toppings: you can add milk, cream, sugar, chocolate sauce or caramel to give your drink a special touch.

Clean your machine

After enjoying that delicious cup of coffee, it is important that you clean your machine immediately so that it works properly and the coffee keeps its good taste. It is common for manufacturers to include instructions on how to clean the machine properly in the machine’s instructions for use. To dispose of the coffee capsule, all you have to do is remove it from the extraction chamber.
